Escape-proof jail
A timeout they can wait out is not a jail. ModShield snapshots roles, applies the jail role, and re-applies it if the member leaves and comes back — timed or indefinite.
- Role snapshot + restore
- Survives leave/rejoin
- Timed or indefinite
- Filter + mod escalation target
Why teams turn it on
Survives leave/rejoin
Jail state is remembered. Leaving to clear roles does not clear the sentence — a classic timeout exploit is gone.
Clean restore
On release, previous roles come back from what was stored — not a guess about what they “should” have had.
Both platforms
On Telegram, the same policy drives a supergroup restriction so Discord and TG feel consistent for your team.
One escalation target
Link filter, flood, automod, and human mods can all send someone to the same jail instead of inventing five half-measures.
How it works
1. Jail is applied
ModShield stores the member’s roles, removes them, and assigns your jail role (or applies a Telegram restriction).
2. Escape attempts fail
If they leave and rejoin, the jail is re-applied from stored state until the sentence ends or staff release them.
3. Release restores
Timed jails expire automatically. Manual release restores the snapshot so people return to a known permission set.
Real situations
Repeat advertisers
Link filter escalates to jail after N strikes — they can read rules in a muted state without posting ads.
Heated argument cool-down
Staff jail for an hour instead of a permanent ban when the goal is de-escalation, not exile.
Cross-platform consistency
The same “this person is restricted” concept applies in Telegram groups with ban-users permission.
FAQ
Is jail the same as timeout?
No. Timeout is temporary platform mute. Jail is role-based (or TG restriction) with leave/rejoin persistence.
What if they had a boost role?
Snapshot/restore aims to put back what was taken; edge cases are covered in the setup guide.
